Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Late-night construction endangers California workers

Performing road construction work at night does offer several benefits to workers, as it allows them to avoid conditions like midday heat and rush hour traffic. That is why many major construction projects on California roadways are performed primarily after dark. However, late-night construction projects can subject workers to a number of other dangerous conditions, such as poor visibility and driver negligence.

A construction accident along Highway 101 resulted in injuries recently. The incident occurred when a big rig truck reportedly struck a load of rebar being moved on a crane. The rebar became dislodged and fell onto the highway, hitting two construction workers and the center divider of the road.

The crane was being operated in a lane of the highway that was blocked off at the time of the incident, but traffic was apparently moving in the next lane when the truck hit the rebar. While damage was reportedly sustained to the truck involved in the accident, the truck driver was not injured. However, one construction worker required medical treatment for undisclosed injuries. Another construction worker was also transported to an area hospital with head wounds and a broken bone, in addition to other possible injuries.

It was not stated whether or not the road construction site was properly lighted. It was also not known if the truck driver was following road safety guidelines when his vehicle collided with the construction material. Construction workers are continually exposed to a number of hazardous conditions, and can sustain serious injuries while performing their jobs. That is why injury victims and their families have the right to consult with an experienced attorney about their legal options and rights in such cases.
