Falling rebar kills construction worker at San Diego airport

In California, the risk of a construction worker accident seems ever present. In some cases, a physical injury in an on-the-job accident can leave an employee in need of filing workers’ compensation or getting other forms of assistance. In the case of a fatal construction accident, family members of the victim are left with a deep void forever and co-workers that may have witnessed the incident will forever have the scene in their memories.

Such is the case after a 29-year old construction worker recently died while working on a new rental car facility near Lindbergh Field, the airport in San Diego. The accident occurred in the early part of the workday on a Tuesday morning. Fellow employees attempted to rescue the man by releasing him from his harness after being crushed by falling rebar but he was declared dead at the construction site accident.

The worker was reportedly preparing to pour some concrete and was scaling the rebar to do so. As some rebar began to collapse, he called for help which alerted his coworkers of the situation. All work was stopped at the site following the man’s death. It is not known if an investigation was initiated by OSHA or any other organization nor if any negligence was noted on the part of the employer. It is also not known when work may resume at the site.

A ladder fall, a defective power tool accident, a crushing and more can all claim the lives of construction workers. Victims or their family members may be able to get help with compensation by working with a lawyer who has handled these types of situations before.
