Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Failed machinery spews molten lava on workers

California is home to many industrial companies. These businesses comprise a large portion of the state’s economic success. They also pose a high level of risk as industrial workplaces can have many a safety hazard for workers to deal with. An on-the-job accident at such a business can render an employee disabled or unable to work for some time. Some such incidents even occur due to employer negligence.

A Wisconsin brass and machine foundry which faced more than $9,600 in OSHA penalties in 2011 for inappropriate employee exposure to hazards is the site of a recent industrial work accident. The company had to send four of the eight injured workers to the hospital for treatment after their legs and backs were hit by molten lava. The material sprayed from a machine that failed in some way. Details of how the machinery failed are not known.

The company has been in the news before as well when the owner publicly criticized OSHA for allegedly subjecting the business to duplicate audits. The audit process can be intense and costly for businesses. OSHA indicates that no repeat or duplicate audits were conducted. It is not known if or when a new investigation will be opened in the recent accident case.

An industrial workplace can generate an unsafe working environment all too easily. Proper adherence to all safety practices is a must in order to take care of employees. Anyone who has been involved in a workplace accident might wish to talk to an attorney to get help with compensation.
