Worker killed at meat processing plant

When an employee is involved in an accident on the job, concern for individual safety and the prevention of future incidents is natural. Many Californians face the risk of an on-the-job accident on a daily basis, especially in certain business sectors such as industrial or construction. Some accidents may be minor while others can result in serious injury or even death. Falling debris, a slip and fall or a trench collapse are just some examples of common incidents on job sites.

An industrial accident at a Hillshire Farm meat processing plant in Michigan recently claimed the life of one worker, illustrating the dangers involved in certain situations. Few details have been released but while working the man somehow became trapped by a moving conveyor belt. The incident took place during a weekend shift. Despite efforts by both firefighters and sheriff deputies, the 49-year old employee from Guatemala died as a result of the accident.

The Michigan office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be conducting an investigation along with the local Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department to learn more about the incident and what could have caused it. The man is survived by his family which includes three little girls ranging in age from 11 months old to 10 years old.

In the blink of a moment, a life can be lost on a job site and the world of the victim’s family changes forever. Anyone who has lost a loved one in a workplace accident may wish to speak to an attorney to learn what options may exist for compensation.
