Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Concerns abound for workplace accident death rate

California employees deserve the right to know that their workplaces are safe and that they can perform their jobs without complication. Sadly, that is not always the case as an on-the-job accident can happen at any time. Such workplace accidents can lead to long-term disabilities, other serious injuries or even deaths. Injured workers may need to file for workers’ compensation to help accommodate the loss of wages and increased medical bills.

Some industries are known to have a higher than average rate of workplace accidents. These include oil and gas and construction. With the boom in oil and gas in North Dakota, the rate of serious injury and death has appeared to grow as well. Across the nation, 3.4 workers out of every 100,000 workers die as a result of injuries sustained in jobsite accidents. In North Dakota, however, that ratio is 17.7 out of every 100,000 workers.

The document reporting on this came from the AFL-CIO. It leveraged 2012 Bureau of Labor Statistics data and found that approximately 50,000 people died from diseases related to their workplaces and another 4,600 died from accidents on job sites. Wyoming’s rate of death from an accident on the job was 12.2 out of every 100,000 and Alaska came in at number three with 8.9.

Whether from a trench collapse, a slip and fall or some other situation, the consequences of an accident in an unsafe working environment can be severe. Anyone who has been involved in a workplace accident may wish to talk to an attorney to learn how they can get help.
