Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Actress facing lawsuit for failing to pay workers’ comp insurance

When a person is hurt on the job in Los Angeles he or she should not have to cover the cost of medical care for his or her injury. Likewise, he or she should be able to receive workers’ compensation for the income lost. That’s just one more reason that it’s also important for companies to be in compliance with their workers comp insurance payments.

The New York State Workers Compensation Board has apparently issued a hefty bill against television actress, Tina Fey, for failing to pay workers' compensation insurance. However, according to Ms. Fey, it’s all a misunderstanding. Reportedly she claims that she has been making the payments, but an address mix-up has caused all the confusion. According to her spokeswoman, Ms., Fey has always paid her worker’s comp insurance on time and that she is current right now.

According to the spokeswoman, the state could have avoided the problem if it had taken the time to verify the paperwork that proves Ms. Fey has paid her workers’ compensation insurance in full. Apparently, the NYS WC Board has been sending notifications to an account that moved locations nearly six years ago. The Governor’s press office had not responded to Fey’s claims at the time of this report.

Although it appears that Ms. Fey has actually made her payments it’s important for company’s to make sure that they are always current with worker’s compensation insurance. Meantime, anyone who has been hurt on the job should be able to receive compensation for his or her time lost. If you are having difficulty receiving fair compensation then you might want to speak with an attorney.
