Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Business owner busted for failing to pay workers' compensation

If you’ve been injured on the job then you are most likely entitled to workers' compensation. However, collecting a fair amount of compensation is not always easy, as some employers and/or insurance companies work together to deny these claims or underpay compensation amounts. Anyone hurt at work in the Los Angeles area needs to be compensated fairly, especially if he or she needs continuing medical help and can’t return to work.

A business owner has been charged for skipping out on paying workers’ compensation for one of his workers who was hurt on the job. The 49-year-old landscape business owner is facing a single count of doing business without workers’ comp insurance and seven counts of making false reports to the department of Labor & Industries.

According to court papers, an employee of the company filed for workers’ compensation after he was hurt on the job. However, according to the worker the owner pressured him not to file a claim by threatening him and his family if he did. The owner of the company had reportedly lost his workers’ comp coverage for previously failing to pay his insurance premiums. However, the owner continued to employ the worker full-time until he got hurt.

Anyone who has been hurt or become ill due to a work-related injury or an unsafe work environment might want to speak with an experienced workers’ compensation attorney as soon as possible. A knowledgeable workers’ comp lawyer knows how to handle these types of cases and will do everything in his or her power to help you receive fair compensation.
