NFL facing hundreds of workers compensation claims in California

Workers’ compensation laws and policies in Los Angeles are always under review as employers and government officials consider the many aspects of workers' compensation cases. Laws can change at any time, which is why it’s important for you to be aware of your legal rights if you have been hurt on the job. In many cases, whether or not you receive a fair amount of compensation can all depend on the timing.

The nation’s largest professional sports league, the National Football league is facing literally hundreds of lawsuits from former players who are claiming personal injuries from their time spent playing the game they love. The reason for the suits, according to a report, is the recent California legislation that prohibited the majority of professional players from filing workers’ compensation claims in California.

The bill was considered a win for the NFL and other professional sports leagues. However, reportedly because of the publicity surrounding the bill, literally more than a thousand former players filed personal injury claims against the NFL before the legislation passed and became law. Now because of those lawsuits, the NFL could be forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to settle all of those claims, most of which included brain or head trauma complaints.

It will be interesting to see how these lawsuits turn out and the impact it will have on workers’ compensation claims in California going forward. If you have been hurt at work and are not getting the compensation you deserve, then maybe it’s time for you to speak with a workers’ compensation attorney.
