Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Man injured while lifting heavy object at work wins lawsuit

No one ever wants to get hurt on the job. Workplace injuries and accidents can prevent a person from working for weeks, months and sometimes even permanently. However, when a person in the Van Nuys area has been hurt on the job, he or she is probably entitled to receive workers’ compensation for being injured and for the time missed on the job.

A judge has ruled in favor of a man who was hurt at work and who continues to feel the affects of his injury years later. The 49-year-old man was hurt while lifting a heavy pressure washer into his work van. He suffered nerve damage and a protruded disc in the incident, which occurred in 2007. He was unable to continue working as a mechanic and was not able to keep a subsequent job due to the continuing pain he feels in his back.

According to court documents the man sued his employer claiming that it had not protected him from injury. The judge ruled that the company did not have proper safety measures in place and he sided with the injured man. The man was awarded $1.4 million damages for his injury.

In this case the judge felt that this man’s injury could have been prevented had more safety measures been in place to protect him. Therefore, the judge felt he was entitled to compensation for his injuries. Anyone in the Los Angeles area who has been hurt on the job but hasn’t been compensated fairly should probably contact an expert workers’ compensation lawyer as soon as possible, before it becomes too late.
