Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

California may soon be giving workers’ comp rate a bump

Workers’ compensation laws and regulations in California are always changing and it’s important for anyone who works in the Los Angeles area to be aware of these changes as they could affect whether or not a person receives the proper compensation if he or she is hurt on the job.

There may be good news for workers throughout the entire state of California that are injured while at work. That’s because an increase in the workers' compensation rate might be coming soon. According to a recent report, the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau Actuarial Committee met in August and determined that there has been “significant adverse medical loss development and increasing indemnity claim frequency” from March to June of this year.

Because of the report, the governing Committee will now reportedly consider the average advisory pure premium rate. Although a final number is not yet known, the original indication was an average pure premium rate of 3.4 percent above the industry average pure premium. With this latest meeting it is likely that the rate will be even several percentage points higher.

If the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau Actuarial Committee does decide to increase the workers’ compensation rate in the state of California that could be good news for the dozens of workers who are hurt on the job and need financial assistance after sustaining their injuries. If someone does find him or herself in a workers’ compensation battle he or she should probably speak with an experienced workers’ compensation attorney.
