Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Strike at Wal-Mart follows numerous OSHA complaints

An employer's responsibility to provide a safe work environment for all employees should not be taken lightly. Laws are clear and created for the purpose of ensuring all workers the right to perform their job duties without the risk of unnecessary injuries. Workers' compensation laws and insurance as well as the existence of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration emphasize the importance of this in our country.

Some California Wal-Mart employees allege that the company has ignored many safe working practices, exposing them to workplace accidents. The problems noted include working in dark conditions while putting items into containers for shipping, blocked emergency exits and non-operational or damaged components on forklifts, all of which have the potential to be a safety hazard.

Several of the workers filed complaints with Cal/OSHA regarding their claims. After allegedly being retailiated against for filing the claims, a group of 30 or more employees recently held a two-day strike against the company in a surprise effort to gain awareness for their cause. The employees participating in the strike were non-union members. This strike follows a sanctioned strike that took place earlier in the year.

An unsafe working environment puts employees in harm’s way and it is the goal of the law and OSHA rules to prevent such situations. If you are concerned about your workplace safety or have been involved in an accident on the job, it may be helpful to talk to an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to learn your rights.
