Representing Injured Workers Since 1955

Report shows California with third highest job injury rate

Workplace safety should always be a high priority for employers. All workers deserve a safe and appropriate working environment. Some jobs carry a greater chance for injury than others, requiring even greater diligence on the part of employers. An on-the-job injury such as a fall, spine injury, back injury and more can lead to unexpected medical costs and lost wages for employees.

California was recently found to have the third highest rate of documented workplace injury or illness among all 50 states in the nation. That ranking should make California workers and employers take note.

Many such injuries can lead to workers’ compensation claims being filed as well as the need to collect Social Security Disability and are noted to be the sixth most common reasons in the list of all causes for such claims.

The report released by Allsup, a seller of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), was compiled from data provided by the U.S. Department of Labor and included injuries that led to a need for adjustment in the work to be provided by the employee. It identified some of the industries noted for having the highest injury rates.

While employers have the responsibility to create and maintain a safe working environment, employees should also know that they have recourse should they be injured in an accident at work or incur an injury as a result of a working condition. Talking to a workers’ compensation attorney can help to keep all employees informed about their rights and options. If you have been injured or subject to illness because of a condition on the job, you may wish to consider a legal consultation to ensure you are properly protected.
